Graduate Education Programs

Looking to earn an initial teaching certification or a second certification?

The University of Scranton's education programs can help. We offer two on-campus programs: an MS in Secondary Education and an MS in Special Education.

We can also prepare you to take the edTPA assessment, a new certification requirement adopted by many states.

Our programs are approved by the PA Department of Education. Program graduates who receive a passing score on certification examinations are eligible for certification in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

MS in Secondary Education

Offers courses and fieldwork for students seeking an initial Pennsylvania Instructional I certificate, grades 7-12, in a specific academic area. Students can expand their certification areas by taking targeted state examinations.

  • Certification Areas: Biology, Chemistry, Communication, History, Political Science, English, General Science, Mathematics, Modern Language, Latin and Physics

Students must complete a total of 34 graduate credit hours, 70 hours of field experience, and a semester of student teaching. A comprehensive examination is also required.

New Opportunity

You can now complete the Master’s in Secondary Education program in just 11 months!
