There’s a growing demand for qualified clinical mental health counselors. In fact, there is an 18% projected growth in the employment of substance abuse, behavioral disorder and mental health counselors from 2022 to 2032.1  The MS in clinical mental health counseling prepares students for direct entry into or advancement in counseling positions in a variety of public and private settings.

The industry is poised to expand significantly, with a projected average of 42,000 openings for substance abuse, behavioral disorder, and mental health counselors slated each year for the next decade.1

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects this growth due to of a increase in the number of people who have mental health and behavioral disorders.1

There will also be a continued need for services for people with addictions, especially those who have opioid use disorder.1

Marriage and family therapists help people manage and overcome problems with family and other relationships. They work in a variety of settings, such as private practice and mental health centers. Many apply cognitive behavioral therapy, a goal-oriented approach that helps clients understand harmful thoughts, feelings and beliefs and teaches them how to replace them with positive, life-enhancing ones.2

Mental Health Counselor:

Mental health counselors advise people on a range of issues, such as those relating to depression, alcoholism, or addiction. They provide support to help clients recover from addiction, modify problem behaviors or improve mental health.1

Upon completing a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling, you will be able to: 

Provide group and individual counseling services and manage a caseload
Assess and diagnose clients' emotional, cognitive and behavioral symptoms
