Chief nursing officers serve as part of a health system’s leadership team and help set the organization’s standards for nursing operations and quality of patient care. Chief nursing officers can work in many settings, including rehabilitation facilities, surgery centers, outpatient clinics, and corporate offices for insurance companies and healthcare systems.1

Nursing directors are organizational leaders who assume all administrative duties for a nursing department. They supervise their organization’s nursing staff and ensure that both staff and patient needs are being met.
