MICHAEL COSTELLO: The MHA program seeks to train administrators and management personnel for the field of healthcare administration. The healthcare sector of the economy is very different than other sectors. Given the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the changes that will require, we believe there’s going to be a very bright future for people who are specifically trained for the field of healthcare administration.
DANIEL J. WEST JR: These courses are designed to be very practical oriented so that the information and knowledge is usable very quickly, as opposed to just theoretical content knowledge. It’s very user-friendly. There’s a lot of support services that are built in. It’s 24/7 access to resources.
At the University, we affiliate with the American College of Health Care Executives. These are the CEOs running major health care systems. We want our students associating with the people that are out there making the difference.
University of Scranton is one of the first programs in the United States to be accredited for online education through CAHME. Coming out of a CAHME program gives employers confidence that students have the right kind of skills and that they have the right values that are needed to work for their health care organization.

The curriculum is made up of 16 courses and 47 credits, as well as three optional specializations. You’ll explore ethical practices, research methods, financial management, issue resolution, marketing and other essential topics.
The MHA curriculum is based on the ACHE Healthcare Leadership Alliance competency model, including 24 core competencies across five critical domains.

Follow Your Passion With MHA Specializations
You may add an MHA specialization in Health Informatics, Global Health, or Post-Acute Care. These specializations incorporate 150 hours of fieldwork and add just six more credits to your curriculum, for a total of 53 credits.
A specialization is optional and not required to complete this program.
Admission Requirements
To apply for the Master of Health Administration program from The University of Scranton, you’ll need:
- Completed application
- 3.0 minimum undergraduate GPA
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Résumé
- Students with 0-3 years of work experience may be admitted to the program and will be required to take HAD 581 to meet the Applied Professional Experience requirement; admitted students with 3 or more years of work experience will complete HAD 580 or HAD 582 as their Applied Professional Experience
- Statement of intent
- Two letters of recommendation. If the applicant has three years of management experience, at least one of the letters should come from a different senior executive within the applicant’s organization or prior organization of employment
