What Makes Us Unique?

Rooted in Ignatian tradition. As a Jesuit institution, The University of Scranton focuses on educating the mind, body and spirit in a holistic approach that equips students to serve themselves and their communities.

A hands-on approach to learning. Students receive the foundation of their education in the classroom working with our dedicated faculty, and they put it into practice through hands-on teaching experiences at middle and high schools across the community. More than traditional student-teacher experiences, these programs ensure students participate in learning, lead after-school programs and more.

Open to current teachers or those wanting to join the field, the program offers courses and fieldwork for students seeking an initial Pennsylvania Instructional I certificate, grades 7-12, in a specific academic area.

Our experienced faculty give personal attention to every student, relying on a one-to-one teaching model. Students have the opportunity to complete graduate assistantships, which strengthen the quality of their education by creating connections with their academic program and provide valuable and necessary services to the University.

A Career That Invests in the Future

Individuals in secondary education build off the foundation formed by primary educators, helping mold the next generation of citizens, while preparing them for an in-demand field.

Earning a master's in secondary education will prepare you to teach students in middle and high school. Each student in the program chooses a certification that prepares them to teach in various grades in a specific content area. Students achieving certification in any of the areas offered can expand their certification areas by taking targeted state examinations.
